Homework

Our main home task for all children is to read every evening.  This is most effective when shared with an experienced reader who is in a position to support decoding using a range of strategies and who can ask a range of questions, literal and requiring inference and deduction.  The ideal outcome from reading is that a meaningful conversation takes place about the text read.  It is essential that school reading  and record books are returned to school daily.

We aim to give maths homework, based on the learning that has taken place during the school day, to reinforce and consolidate understanding.  These tasks should take no longer than 10 minutes.

At the weekend, a longer homework task is given that may be related to any subject, to be returned to school on Monday.

Teachers may give additional tasks from time to time, based on learning taking place in class.  This task may take a variety of forms, such as research, reading, learning by heart, etc.

We value the support of parents and carers and ask that you ensure homework is completed when given.  We especially value your support in encouraging your child to read, developing their fluency and confidence.
